Weapon Masteries are experience paths that unlock abilities, modifiers, and bonuses for a specific type of weapon in New World. Players progress in Weapon Mastery by gaining weapon Mastery points in battle, which scale with XP/enemy level. But the other guidelines when it comes to fundamentals like classes, professions, and weapon proficiency are lacking, so it's easy for players to get confused or overwhelmed when presented with all of the options. So in this article, we bring everything you need to know about weapon mastery in New World.

1. Weapon Mastery Talent Trees

Each weapon Mastery has 2 Skill Trees, and players are forced to choose which portions of the Skill Trees to unlock, as it is impossible to unlock both Skill Trees fully. Each weapon skill tree includes several options for different abilities and skills that players can get for each weapon. This varies depending on the abilities of each weapon. Talent trees are organized by the character's role and divided between ranged, melee damage, defense, or healing.

2. Weapon Mastery And Ability Scores

There are five core attributes in New World: Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity, Constitution, and Focus. As you progress through the game, you'll earn more points, which you can, in turn, distribute amongst any of the five core attributes. When you reach the cap of any of the attributes, you'll be rewarded with certain powerful boosts, which will come in handy during fights and your overall venture in the game. A clever way that New World simplifies Weapon Mastery is by assigning each weapon a primary and sometimes secondary ability score. For example, players working towards weapon mastery with a rapier are considered to be a DPS class. They will build up Dexterity as their primary ability score and Intelligence as their second one. These points can be found under the Attributes tab, and it costs new world mmo coins to respec these points.

3. Know Your Role

In New World, whilst you won't be selecting a specific class, and you can customize your character to play how you want, the traditional MMO role trifecta of the tank, DPS, and healer still apply. They rely on their party role regarding their specific weapon mastery build. A big part of being a good player is Weapon Mastery. But, with this level of complexity comes a need to very carefully and know your role.

4. Level Up

In New World, all that a player might need to equip a weapon of any kind is a certain level, and all they have to do to gain Weapon Mastery is to use it. Advancing a character level means three more points to use in whatever ability score is the best for the chosen weapon skill. Weapon Mastery skill levels separately, and every so often, a player will be prompted to choose a new ability connected with their weapon. How good they are at using that skill depends on their ability scores, which in turn depend on the level and the specific build for each weapon.

5. No Classes

Unlike most MMOs, there are no classes or races to choose from in New World. In addition, there are no classes to choose from when going through New World's character creation. Instead, you'll develop your character in ways unique to your playstyle and interests, making your character your own through play. The catch is that players would have to "respec" if they wanted to make a dramatic change late in the Weapon Mastery leveling process, and this requires spending Azoth. Azoth is the substance used and collected in Aeternum that's obtained from harvesting, crafting, enemy drops, and as a reward for completing quests. Players that anticipate changing their minds a lot would be wise to stockpile some of this valuable resource.

Weapon Mastery in New World is one of the most customizable parts of the game and one that players collectively agree is one of the MMO's greatest strengths. Was this article helpful? If you want to know more guides, please browse here!
